FAQ
- Q : Does ThermBlock work in a hot climate? Or cold climate?
- A : ThermBlock works well in both hot and cold climates. It is advised that, since each building’s energy use characteristics are different, careful analysis of building’s energy use should be done before determining where ThermBlock is applied.
- Q : How does ThermBlock work?
- A : ThermBlock works in four basic principles of reflectivity, lower material density, micro porous structure and multiple layers of air space. Majority of heat energy in the sun’s ray is reflected back to the atmosphere, then layers of micro hollow structure blocks heat transfer from one surface to the another. Lastly a portion of the absorbed heat will be emitted back to atmosphere.
- Q : Where can I apply ThermBlock?
- A : ThermBlock is a highly versatile material and can be applied to virtually anywhere in a building. Depending on the geographic location and the building’s specific needs, the most effective point of application should be carefully determined by addressing all the requirements and economics. As a general rule of thumb, in a hot climate, roof-tops and exterior south facing walls are good places to apply. In contrast, in a cold climate, the interior surface such as ceilings and outer most walls are effective places to cover with ThermBlock.
- Q : Can anyone apply ThermBlock?
- A : ThermBlock is a very unique product and it should be applied only by an authorized contractor in order to ensure maximum effectiveness and warranty. For the list of authorized contractors in your area please contact Ecore Global.
A non-experienced individual can apply ThermBlock, but in this case no performance will be guaranteed.
- Q : What tools are recommended for application?
- A : ThermBlock can be applied by using almost any painting tools such as brush, roller, or airless sprayer, although typical compressor type air sprayer is not recommended.
- Q : How can I become an authorized contractor?
- A : Ecore Global will work with you to arrange a training session for you. For an experienced painter, the training session will take approximately 4 to 8 hours.
- Q : Does ThermBlock come with warranty?
- A : Yes. When it’s applied by factory authorized contractor the Ecore Global provides maximum of 5 year limited product warranty. (Some ristrictions may apply.)
- Q : How long does ThermBlock last?
- A : ThermBlock has been tested and proven to last more than 15 years in harsh outdoor environment.
- Q : Will it harm a building?
- A : NO! It’s actually the totally opposite. ThermBlock is very durable and flexible material. It adheres to almost any surface and stays flexible for an entire life time. That means ThermBlock can fill cracks and crevices of the building’s surface, and conforms to building’s expansion and contraction. Because of this elasticity it will never chip or peel unlike typical paint products.
- Q : How many colors are available?
- A : ThermBlock is basically an acrylic based emulsion product, and you can create any desired color using typical acrylic pigments. Ecore Global has several pre-mixed color options available for you to choose from, or, you may contact an authorized contractor or Ecore Global to make custom colored batches.
- Q : Does it require special surface preparations?
- A : ThermBlock works very similar to other acrylic paint products. Thorough cleaning of surfaces ensure successful application. All oil, dirt, moss, dust, rust and other foreign objects have to be removed completely prior to application.
- Q : Does it require top a coat?
- A : We have a specially formulated top coat material to accompany ThermBlock, although it is not a mandatory requirement. Depending on the desired surface quality and specific location of the applied area, glossy finish ThermBlock Top Coat can be applied. This product, comes in various colors as well as clear finish, has micro particles of titanium dioxide (TiO2) mixed in, which creates a special chemical reaction when exposed to light and moisture which creates a self-cleaning effect.
- Q : How thick does ThermBlock has to be applied?
- A : Ideal thickness is between 0.4 to 0.6 mm (or 0.016 to 0.024 inch). Technically, you could apply thicker coats, but the additional performance is not guaranteed, plus the cost performance may be decreased.
- Q : How long doest it to take to dry ThermBlock?
- A : When ambient temperature is above 70° F and relative humidity is below 50%, between 1 to 2 hours should be adequate. During cold seasons, or ambient temperature is below 70° F, it may take more than 3 to 4 hours.
- Q : Is ThermBlock waterproof?
- A : Yes, properly applied ThermBlock repels water but stays breathable.
